Buy fresh produce and refrigerated items closer to the meal. Reserve specialty items according to the shop’s collection rules. This keeps one missing ingredient from turning Christmas Eve into a store tour.

A three-day weekend can encourage families to fit several gatherings into one stretch. The result is often a chain of meals with no travel margin. Replace “Christmas morning” with a start and finish time. If two households are involved, decide who hosts Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day before invitations go out.
